Abia State Governor Alex Otti has denied rumors of his defection from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The speculations, which emerged on social media, claim that Otti has abandoned the LP for the APC. However, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, has dismissed the reports as fabrications by political propagandists seeking to undermine Otti’s governance and growing popularity.
According to Commissioner Kanu, Governor Otti remains a committed member of the Labour Party, which he Used to win the election. Otti’s focus is on rebuilding Abia, restoring accountability, and delivering democratic dividends to the state’s citizens. The governor recently reaffirmed his commitment to service and transformation, rather than political permutations or defections, during his monthly address to Abians.
The Otti-led administration is pursuing a clear vision centered on transparency, fiscal discipline, infrastructure renewal, economic growth, youth empowerment, and restoring public confidence in governance. These values align with the Labour Party’s ideals, which the governor is unlikely to compromise for political convenience. The commissioner urged the public to disregard the false report, describing it as a cheap propaganda tactic aimed at diverting attention from the state’s progress.
The denial comes amid ongoing speculation about political alignments in Nigeria. Governor Otti’s administration has been focused on implementing its agenda, with an emphasis on good governance and delivery of public services. The Labour Party has been gaining traction in the country, with Otti’s leadership in Abia State being closely watched. As the state continues to implement its development plans, the governor’s commitment to his party and the people of Abia remains a key factor in the state’s progress.
