Nigeria Electricity Outages Hit Enugu Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced planned electricity outages in parts of Enugu State and Abuja due to maintenance of its Kubwa and New Haven Enugu 132/33 kilovolt substations. The scheduled maintenance is aimed at ensuring the stability and efficiency of the power transmission infrastructure.

In Enugu State, the maintenance is set to take place from October 22, 2025, to October 31, 2025, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm daily. During this period, there will be a disruption of bulk electricity supply to one 33-kilovolt feeder per day on a rotational basis. This arrangement has been carefully planned to minimize disruption, with only one feeder affected at a time. Given that Enugu State is supplied by twenty-four 33-kilovolt feeders, most parts of the state will continue to receive a power supply while the maintenance is ongoing.

TCN has clarified that this is not a total system shutdown for Enugu State, and the exercise requires the temporary isolation of specific 33-kilovolt feeders to ensure the safety of technical crews and the protection of equipment under maintenance. As a result, customers in areas served by these feeders will experience power interruption only on the day their specific feeder is isolated.

In Abuja, the disruption is expected to take effect on October 21, 2025, and will affect areas in Kubwa, including Army Resettlement, Papal Ground, and other neighboring communities. The scheduled preventive maintenance at the Kubwa 132/33 kV Transmission Substation will involve the replacement of a 33-kilovolt circuit breaker with a new one, requiring an interruption of bulk power supply to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) from Kubwa Substation.

The maintenance work is scheduled to take place from 11 am to 3 pm on October 21, 2025. TCN has notified the public of the planned outages, emphasizing the importance of the maintenance in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the power transmission infrastructure. The company has assured that the work has been carefully planned to minimize disruption to customers, and the outages are necessary to prevent more extensive and prolonged power interruptions in the future. With the completion of the maintenance, residents in Enugu State and Abuja can expect improved power supply and reduced risk of electricity outages.
