A fire outbreak occurred on Wednesday at Shuwaki Market in Gari Local Government Area of Kano State, resulting in the destruction of 529 temporary stalls. The Kano Fire Service received a distress call at 3:25 p.m. from the Gari Fire Station, prompting a swift response to contain the blaze.
According to Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano Fire Service, firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene to quench the fire and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the market. The service reported that out of over 1,000 temporary stalls in the market, 529 were completely razed to the ground. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.
The cause of the fire outbreak has been attributed to the carelessness of some individuals residing within the market premises, who were reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
