APC Crisis: Shinkafi Accuses Matawalle of Divisive Politics

Zamfara: Call Matawalle to order - APC chieftain to Tinubu, Yilwatda

A former governorship candidate in Zamfara State, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has called on President Bola Tinubu and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, to intervene in the party’s affairs in the state. Shinkafi alleged that the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, is engaging in divisive politics, which led to the party’s defeat in the 2023 gubernatorial election.

According to Shinkafi, Matawalle is using his ministerial office to receive APC members who switch camps, effectively turning the office into a personal campaign headquarters. This, Shinkafi claims, is a distraction from the minister’s primary responsibilities, including addressing security challenges such as terrorism, insurgency, and armed banditry.

Shinkafi expressed concern that Matawalle’s actions could lead to another defeat for the APC in the state in the 2027 general election. He cited the minister’s alleged attempts to hijack party structures and factionalize the party, which he believes is contrary to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes inclusive politics and governance.

The APC chieftain also referenced the party’s internal conflicts, including the creation of factional leaderships by Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji and Senator Kabiru Mafara. He stated that he had detached himself from some party activities to avoid unnecessary confrontations and factionalizations.

Shinkafi’s concerns come amid a broader national discussion on the need for inclusive politics and governance in Nigeria. The APC, as the ruling party, is expected to promote unity and stability within its ranks. However, the situation in Zamfara State suggests that internal conflicts and power struggles may be undermining the party’s chances of success in future elections.

The call for intervention by President Tinubu and the APC national chairman highlights the significance of addressing these internal conflicts and promoting a more cohesive and inclusive approach to party politics. As the 2027 general election approaches, the APC will need to reconcile its internal differences and present a united front to voters if it hopes to regain Zamfara State.
