APC Leader Urges Tinubu to Intervene in Zamfara Party Crisis

Wade into Zamfara’s deepening crisis before APC boils over - Shinkafi tells Tinubu

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Sani Shinkafi, has called on President Bola Tinubu and the party’s National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, to address the growing divisions within the party in the state. Shinkafi’s appeal comes as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections, with rising tensions among key stakeholders threatening the unity of the APC.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Shinkafi warned that unless the party’s leadership promotes dialogue and reconciliation, the APC risks repeating the mistakes that led to its loss of power in 2023. He emphasized the need for party leaders at all levels, including Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to put aside personal rivalries and work towards uniting the party’s fractured base.

The APC chieftain, who is also a member of the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, cautioned that internal rivalries and factionalism could once again hand victory to the opposition if left unresolved. He stressed the importance of cooperation and rebuilding trust among party members, saying, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

Shinkafi’s concerns are rooted in the party’s history of internal conflicts, which have hindered its ability to present a united front in past elections. The APC’s loss in 2023 was attributed, in part, to its internal divisions and lack of cohesion. As the party looks to the 2027 elections, Shinkafi’s call for unity and reconciliation is seen as a crucial step towards regaining power.

To move forward, Shinkafi emphasized the need for former governors, serving ministers, and other party leaders to work together to rebuild the APC in Zamfara State. By promoting cooperation and dialogue, the party can begin to heal its internal divisions and present a stronger, more unified front in the upcoming elections. The success of this effort will be crucial in determining the APC’s chances of success in 2027.
