Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and his family gathered in Abeokuta to commemorate the 20th memorial service of his late wife, Stella Obasanjo. The ceremony, held at the Chapel of Christ the Glorious King, OOPL, Abeokuta, was attended by dignitaries including former Governors Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun.

During the church service, John Abebe, Stella’s younger brother, paid tribute to her, describing her as someone who rarely got angry and always had a smile on her face. He recalled how her presence and encouragement had helped their parents cope with the loss of his older brother. Abebe also mentioned that Stella’s son, Olumuyiwa, now in his late 40s, has a 17-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son, who are doing well.

Olumuyiwa Obasanjo spoke about his mother’s infectious laughter and the kindness, advice, and life lessons she had shared. He remembered her as a caring and protective parent who was also strict and expected discipline. Former Ogun Governor Gbenga Daniel appreciated God for Stella’s life, noting that her legacy lives on through her son and grandchildren. He also recalled that a motherless home was named after her during his tenure as governor.

In his sermon, Rev. Yusufu Obaje, the pioneer Chaplain of the State House, Abuja, said that Stella Obasanjo had lived a life of submission to the will of God and had set an exemplary standard. Former President Obasanjo briefly described the occasion as a celebration of a life of service. The memorial service served as a reminder of Stella Obasanjo’s impact on her family and community, and her legacy continues to be felt 20 years after her passing. The ceremony was a testament to her enduring memory and the values she embodied during her lifetime.
