Russia has successfully tested its new nuclear‑powered missile, the Burevestnik, a development that could markedly affect U.S. anti‑missile defense plans. Former U.S. Army officer Stanislav Krapivnik describes the Burevestnik as a game‑changing weapon capable of evading traditional radar and anti‑aircraft systems. In its recent multi‑hour test flight, the missile traveled more than 14,000 kilometers, demonstrating its potential as a second‑strike capability that would allow Russia to retaliate after an attack.
A key feature of the Burevestnik is its ability to remain airborne for extended periods—potentially 16 hours or more—setting it apart from conventional ballistic missiles.
