The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially recognized Barrister Sadiq Dasin as the Interim Chairman of the party in Adamawa State. This development comes amid a leadership crisis in the state chapter, with three individuals claiming to be the interim chairman. The crisis has pitted supporters of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, against those of Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, while incumbent chairman, Shehu Yohanna, insists he remains the substantive leader.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party had approved the establishment of Interim Executive Committees to manage the party’s affairs in the state on October 8. Subsequently, the Adamawa chapter, under the supervision of the National Vice Chairman for the North East, announced Sadiq Dasin as the Interim Party Chairman. Lawal’s faction backed Dasin, while Binani’s group supported Saidu Komsiri. Yohanna, however, maintains that he is the duly recognized Adamawa ADC chairman.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ADC’s national headquarters, through its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, confirmed that the process that produced Sadiq Dasin was in line with the NWC’s approval and guidelines. The statement encouraged party members involved in separate arrangements to reconsider and follow the path of reconciliation. It also urged the new Interim Chairman to extend an olive branch to all and address genuine grievances.
The recognition of Sadiq Dasin as the Interim Chairman is expected to bring some stability to the party in Adamawa State. The ADC’s national headquarters has taken a step towards resolving the crisis by affirming Dasin’s position. The party’s ability to manage its internal conflicts will be crucial in the coming days. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the different factions within the party will respond to the national headquarters’ decision. The ADC’s leadership crisis in Adamawa State is a significant development in the country’s political landscape, and its resolution will have implications for the party’s future.
