A political rally organized by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, was halted by the Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area in Anambra State, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike, on Wednesday. The rally, which was in violation of rules prohibiting the use of public or private schools as campaign venues during school hours, was scheduled to take place at St. Augustine Primary School, Umunze.

According to eyewitnesses, members of Ukachukwu’s campaign council had begun erecting canopies for the rally when the chairman intervened, citing the breach of regulations. Hon. Azubuike ordered the immediate dismantling of the canopies and directed the organizers to vacate the premises until they obtained an official clearance letter from the Local Government Authority.

The chairman’s action was based on a directive issued by the Anambra State Ministry of Education on August 14, 2025, which prohibits political, religious, or social events in public and private schools during school hours. The directive, aimed at minimizing disruptions to the learning environment, emphasizes the need for alternative venues for such gatherings.

Hon. Azubuike explained that the enforcement of this directive is not targeted at any specific group, but rather aimed at maintaining peace, order, and public safety in line with the council’s regulations. He warned that school heads and proprietors who fail to enforce the directive would face administrative or legal sanctions.

The chairman reiterated his commitment to ensuring that all public gatherings in Orumba South comply with established administrative and safety standards. The incident highlights the importance of adhering to regulations in the use of public facilities, particularly schools, for political and social events.

The APC governorship candidate’s campaign team has yet to comment on the incident. Meanwhile, the Anambra State Ministry of Education has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the directive, emphasizing the need for all stakeholders to respect the learning environment and adhere to established guidelines. As the election season approaches, the enforcement of such regulations is likely to remain a key focus for local authorities.
