ADC Clarifies Leadership Roles in Kaduna Coalition

Coalition: ADC presents membership cards to David Mark, Aregbesola

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State has clarified that Senator Nenadi Esther Usman and Bashir Saidu are leaders of a coalition in the state, not the ADC. This comes after misrepresentations surrounding their recent appointments as Chairman and Co-Chairman of the coalition. The ADC chairman in Kaduna State, Elder Patrick D. Ambut, issued a statement to set the record straight, emphasizing that the party’s leadership structure remains intact and unaffected by the coalition appointments.

The coalition, an alliance of individuals, political parties, and interest groups, aims to rescue Nigerians from the current hardship and maladministration of the ruling APC government. To coordinate activities effectively in Kaduna, the coalition designated leadership positions, resulting in the appointment of Senator Usman and Saidu. These appointments are separate from the ADC’s leadership structure, which remains in full charge of the party’s affairs and operations within the state.

Senator Usman, the Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, was appointed Chairman of the coalition efforts in Kaduna State, reflecting her party’s commitment to the coalition. The Labour Party has been an active participant in the collective rescue mission, with its leadership, stakeholders, and 2023 presidential candidate working together to liberate Nigerians from the APC’s grip.

The clarification was necessary to dispel false narratives circulating in some quarters that Senator Usman had defected to the ADC. The ADC chairman stressed that the party’s elected State Executive Committee remains in charge, and the coalition appointments are solely for coordinating opposition efforts in the state. The development highlights the growing coalition movement in Nigeria, as opposition parties and interest groups unite to challenge the ruling party’s dominance. As the country approaches future elections, such alliances are likely to play a significant role in shaping the political landscape.
