Tinubu Support Group Seeks Northern Backing for 2027 Reelection

The Tinubu Support Group (TSG) has expressed confidence in the northern region’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections. According to Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, Director-General of the TSG, the North owes President Tinubu moral support due to his past political alliances with the region.

Yakasai made this statement during the inauguration of the Ondo State chapter of the TSG, where Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was decorated as the group’s Grand Patron. He cited President Tinubu’s support for former President Buhari in 2017 and 2023 as a reason for the North’s moral obligation to reciprocate. Yakasai dismissed criticisms from some northern figures, describing them as insignificant and representing a small fraction of the electorate.

The TSG Director-General emphasized that the group remains the umbrella body coordinating all pro-Tinubu movements nationwide, working to promote the Tinubu presidency and secure his re-election. In Ondo State, the TSG Director-General, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, called on residents and political groups to rally behind the Tinubu administration, highlighting the state’s gains from several federal projects under President Tinubu’s leadership.

These projects include the Akure–Ado Road, Ore–Akure Road, and the Lagos–Calabar Superhighway, among others. Adegoroye noted that these achievements, combined with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s accomplishments, would form a strong campaign base for 2027. Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the TSG members as “movers and shakers of Ondo politics” and promised that Ondo State would play a major role in ensuring continuity for the Tinubu administration.

The TSG’s expression of support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid underscores the significance of political alliances and regional backing in Nigerian politics. As the 2027 general elections approach, the group’s efforts to mobilize support for the President are likely to be closely watched. With the TSG’s nationwide presence and the reported gains from federal projects in Ondo State, the group’s campaign efforts may have a notable impact on the upcoming elections.
