A recent interview with veteran actor Mustapha Bakare Oloto has revealed the earnings of Nigerian actor Ibrahim Chatta. Oloto disclosed that Chatta now charges N5 million per movie appearance, making him the highest‑paid actor in the industry. He shared this information while discussing the challenges veteran actors face in producing cinema movies.

According to Oloto, most veteran actors, including himself, earn between N250,000 and N300,000 per film, a figure far below Chatta’s fee. This earnings gap makes it difficult for veteran actors to produce their own movies, as they cannot afford the high fees demanded by top stars like Chatta. Oloto recounted his own experience working with Chatta on the set of the film “Jigi” in Ogbomoso, where Chatta was paid N5 million for his role.

Oloto noted that Chatta’s substantial earnings enable him to take on multiple projects each month, whereas veteran actors can typically appear in only one or two films monthly due to their lower fees. The revelation of Chatta’s income highlights a significant pay disparity between leading actors and veterans in Nollywood, which could affect the production of cinema movies. Veteran actors may struggle to secure funding or attract top talent because of their limited budgets.

Nollywood, one of the world’s largest film industries, enjoys a broad following across Africa and beyond and has produced many talented performers, including Chatta, who is known for his versatility and demand. As the industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how the pay gap between top actors and veteran actors influences cinema production and the careers of actors like Ibrahim Chatta.
