The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced the Tax Reform Challenge, a nationwide competition aimed at engaging students in discussions and creative expressions about the country’s new tax reform laws. According to Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, the challenge is open to undergraduates in all Nigerian tertiary institutions and graduates participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program or awaiting mobilization.
The competition seeks to raise awareness about tax education, promote constructive dialogue on Nigeria’s tax reform, and inspire innovative ideas from young Nigerians. Participants are required to create and submit an article, video, podcast, radio piece, or social media post related to the tax reform, published between July 1 and December 31, 2025. The content must be educative, engaging, and fact-based, with critical entries also welcome.
The initiative is part of the committee’s strategy to deepen public understanding of the new tax policies and provide a platform for young Nigerians to contribute to fiscal reform discussions. Entries will be assessed based on creativity, factual accuracy, and ability to inform or engage the public on tax issues. Winners of the Tax Reform Challenge will receive a total of N10 million in cash prizes, with the first, second, and third prizes being 5 million, 3 million, and 2 million, respectively.
In addition to the cash prizes, consolation prizes, including gadgets, internships, or employment opportunities, and Tax Reform Youth Ambassador honors, will be awarded to the top 10 finalists from each geopolitical zone. The Tax Reform Youth Ambassadors are expected to promote fiscal literacy and drive youth participation in tax-related discussions nationwide. As the competition progresses, it is expected to inspire a new generation of tax professionals and advocates, ultimately contributing to the country’s economic growth and development.
