Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has expressed concerns about the current state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that it is facing significant challenges. In a press conference held in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, Fayose noted that the party is struggling to regain its former stature.

According to Fayose, the PDP’s prospects of returning to power appear bleak, given the recent developments within the party. He emphasized the need for a unifying leader to bring the party together, citing the departure of key members as a major obstacle. “The party needs a leader who can reunite everybody at this time,” Fayose said.

Fayose also criticized the current National Working Committee (NWC) led by Damagum, describing them as “undertakers” who have come to “bury the party.” He questioned the NWC’s decision to suspend and counter-suspend members, despite their limited tenure. The former governor believes that the PDP has “reasonably gone into extinction” and that its current state is a far cry from its former self.

The PDP has been facing internal conflicts and challenges in recent times, which have raised concerns about its ability to pose a strong opposition to the ruling party. Fayose’s comments highlight the need for the party to address its internal issues and work towards unity in order to regain its relevance in Nigerian politics.

As the PDP continues to navigate its challenges, it remains to be seen how the party will respond to Fayose’s criticisms and whether it can find a way to reverse its fortunes. The party’s ability to regroup and present a united front will be crucial in determining its future prospects. With the current state of the party, it is essential for the PDP to take immediate action to address its internal conflicts and work towards a more unified and effective leadership.
