APC Slams Peter Obi Over US Designation Reaction

No one else in ADC coalition apart from Peter Obi' - Mark replies Abdullahi

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his response to the United States’ designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.” The APC’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, issued a statement accusing Obi of exploiting the sensitive national issue for political gain rather than demonstrating true statesmanship.

According to Oladejo, Obi’s delayed reaction to the US designation suggests a lack of patriotic conviction, implying that his response was prompted by public pressure. The APC described Obi’s statement as “too little, too late, and too predictable,” lacking sincerity, urgency, and a unifying spirit. The party argued that a leader should not require public reminders to speak out when the nation’s image is at stake, emphasizing that leadership is proactive, not reactive.

The APC further alleged that Obi thrives politically when Nigeria faces challenges, turning national issues into opportunities for political gain. The party defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that he inherited existing security challenges but is addressing them through strategic reforms, including strengthening military command, deploying modern technology, and tackling the economic roots of insecurity.

The APC urged Obi to choose between standing with Nigeria or persisting in political desperation, emphasizing that leadership requires maturity and consistency. The party concluded that Nigeria will not be swayed by those who profit politically from national difficulties, encouraging the public to focus on the Renewed Hope agenda.

In the context of national security, the APC highlighted President Tinubu’s efforts to confront insecurity with courage and strategy. The party’s statement comes amid ongoing discussions about Nigeria’s security challenges and the role of political leaders in addressing these issues. The APC’s criticism of Obi’s response reflects the ongoing debate about the appropriate response to national challenges and the qualities required of leaders in times of crisis.
