The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to criticisms about Nigeria’s insecurity, asserting that President Bola Tinubu is actively working to address the issue. Party spokesman Seye Oladejo said Tinubu has been confronting the security challenges with courage and strategy since taking office. Oladejo emphasized that the country’s security problems are not new; they are inherited issues that the current administration is striving to resolve.
He outlined several measures being taken, including strengthening military command and intelligence structures, deploying modern technology and platforms, revitalizing regional and global security collaboration, and tackling the economic roots of insecurity through bold reforms. The APC spokesman also accused Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, and his allies of using propaganda to exploit the security situation for political gain. Oladejo argued that while serious leaders focus on finding solutions, Obi and his supporters are rehearsing past grievances and relying on foreign commentary to further their interests.
Oladejo criticized Obi’s approach, suggesting that he appears content when Nigeria is under pressure, viewing every challenge as an opportunity to revive his political career. He stressed that real leaders defend their country in difficult moments and balance criticism with dignity and national pride. The APC’s response comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security challenges—issues that remain a major concern for citizens and the international community, prompting calls for urgent action. As the Tinubu administration implements its security strategies, the effectiveness of these measures in addressing the country’s security challenges remains to be seen.
