Osun Assembly passes Multi-Door Court, Traffic Regulation Bills

The Osun State House of Assembly has passed two significant bills aimed at reforming the state’s judicial system and enhancing road safety. The Multi-Door Courthouse Establishment Bill and the Osun State Road Traffic Law and Vehicle Inspection Service Bill, 2025, were approved during a plenary session at the Assembly complex in Osogbo.

The Multi-Door Courthouse Establishment Bill, which has been under consideration for about a year, seeks to promote alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu, the legislation is a “landmark move” aimed at reforming the judicial system in the state. The bill, sponsored by member Femi Popoola, will provide diverse options for dispute resolution, including mediation, arbitration, and conciliation, thereby reducing the burden on courts and ensuring more timely and effective justice delivery.

The Osun State Road Traffic Law and Vehicle Inspection Service Bill, 2025, is an executive bill intended to ensure the inspection, control, and enforcement of roadworthiness standards for vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, trucks, and trailers within the state. The legislation also mandates collaboration with relevant agencies to enhance road safety and compliance.

The passage of the bills followed their third reading at the plenary session, where they were approved by the lawmakers. Speaker Adewale Egbedun commended members for their commitment to the welfare of the people and the overall development of the state. Clean copies of both bills will be forwarded to Governor Ademola Adeleke for assent.

The approval of these bills is expected to have a significant impact on the state’s judicial system and road safety. The Multi-Door Courthouse Establishment Bill will provide alternative channels for case settlement, reducing congestion in courts and correctional facilities. The Osun State Road Traffic Law and Vehicle Inspection Service Bill, 2025, will help to ensure that vehicles on the state’s roads are roadworthy, reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing overall road safety.

The Osun State House of Assembly’s passage of these bills demonstrates its commitment to the welfare and development of the state. The bills’ approval is a significant step towards reforming the state’s judicial system and enhancing road safety, and their implementation is expected to have a positive impact on the state and its residents.
