The Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) has appointed Patrick Moesi as its new Sport Development Manager Technical, a move expected to bolster the country’s athlete development efforts. Moesi brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as a track referee, coach, and technical officer with a bronze level certification from World Athletics.
According to BAA Acting President Oabona Theetso, Moesi’s appointment is a welcome development that will augment the organization’s technical department. Moesi’s background is impressive, with a Master’s Degree in Olympic studies from the University of Peloponnese and a Bachelor of Education in Physical Education from the University of Botswana. He has also held various roles, including Campus Recreation Officer and Acting Manager at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), where he oversaw sports and recreation, culture, and arts.
Moesi’s experience in establishing sports and recreation structures, developing policies, and managing facilities will be invaluable in his new role. The BAA has struggled to qualify athletes for the Olympics in field events, and Moesi’s mandate will include developing coaches and programs to address this issue. Theetso expressed confidence that Moesi will make a significant impact in this area, focusing on development and growth.
As the founding sports and recreation officer at BIUST from 2014 to 2025, Moesi played a pivotal role in establishing the university’s sports and recreation structures and affiliating teams with national and international sports bodies. His expertise and knowledge will be crucial in strengthening Botswana’s athletics development efforts. With Moesi at the helm, the BAA is poised to make significant strides in developing its athletes and improving its performance in international competitions.
