Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has launched the State Council on Nutrition, a key component of the Nutrition 774 initiative aimed at combating malnutrition in the state. The council’s inauguration took place during a visit by Mrs. Uju Rochas-Anwukah, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Health, who was in the state to advocate for the Nutrition 774 initiative.
Governor Buni expressed his administration’s commitment to the program, citing its alignment with the state’s objectives to improve public health and drive sustainable growth. He highlighted the state’s agricultural empowerment program, which has encouraged mass participation in agricultural production, thereby paving the way for a smooth collaboration with the Nutrition 774 initiative.
The governor noted that Yobe State has integrated nutrition-sensitive interventions into its health, education, and social protection programs, as well as the state’s skill acquisition program. This integrated approach is part of the state’s recovery program aimed at building a healthy population. The Nutrition 774 Initiative, he emphasized, reflects a vision where every local government area becomes a hub for community-driven nutrition action, underscoring the importance of coordination, collaboration, and grassroots participation.
Mrs. Rochas-Anwukah commended Governor Buni’s achievements in healthcare delivery and agriculture, sectors critical to nutritional development. She expressed optimism that the Nutrition 774 initiative would be a success story in Yobe State, contributing to a healthy population and socio-economic development.
The launch of the State Council on Nutrition marks a significant step in Yobe State’s efforts to address malnutrition. With the state’s agricultural empowerment program and integrated nutrition-sensitive interventions in place, the council is well-positioned to drive community-driven nutrition action. The collaboration between the state government and the federal government through the Nutrition 774 initiative is expected to yield positive outcomes in improving public health and promoting sustainable growth in Yobe State.
