Kano Governor Abba Yusuf settles APC ex-councillors gratuities

APC group lauds Gov. Yusuf for settling gratuities of ex-Kano councillors — Daily Nigerian

A civil society group, Volunteers for Democracy, within the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, has commended Governor Abba Yusuf for settling the gratuities of former supervisory councillors. The group’s national president, Alhaji Usman, a former Secretary to the State Government, praised the governor for including APC former councillors in the settlement, describing it as a rare instance of setting aside political differences.

The Volunteers for Democracy appreciated the move, noting that it was the first time the governor had done so without conditions. The group also commended the ongoing road projects in Kano, particularly within the metropolis, and urged the government to sustain the pace of development.

However, the group expressed concern over the relocation of Government Secondary School Maikwatashi from Sabongari to Kaura Goje in Nassarawa Local Government Area. Mr. Usman described the relocation as “unfortunate and ill-advised,” citing the potential disruption to the education of affected students and the existing issue of out-of-school children in the state. According to expert reports, Kano State has the highest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.

The group also noted with regret the deteriorating relationship between security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, and the State Government. They emphasized the need for cooperation to address the mounting security challenges in the state.

The settlement of gratuities and the ongoing development projects are significant steps towards improving the lives of citizens in Kano State. However, the relocation of the school and the strained relationship between security agencies and the government are concerns that need to be addressed to ensure peace and sustainable development in the state. The Volunteers for Democracy’s comments highlight the need for the government to prioritize the education and security of its citizens, and to work towards creating a more stable and prosperous environment for all.
