PDP Postpones Ekiti Gubernatorial Primary

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria has announced the postponement of its Ekiti State gubernatorial primary, initially scheduled for November 8th, 2025. The party cited logistics issues as the reason for the delay.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, the acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, disclosed the postponement. The letter stated that the PDP Ekiti State Congress and Governorship primary have been postponed due to logistics constraints. A new date for the primary is expected to be communicated once decided.

This development comes from the PDP faction loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The faction, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu, has been a significant part of the party’s structure. The postponement may have implications for the party’s preparations for the upcoming elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been informed of the development, as required by law. The commission will likely await the new date for the primary before proceeding with further arrangements. The PDP’s ability to conduct a successful primary election is crucial for its chances in the general election.

The Ekiti State gubernatorial election is an important event in Nigeria’s political calendar. The state has been a key battleground for major political parties in the country. The PDP’s postponement of its primary may affect its chances, but the party is expected to announce a new date soon.

The postponement of the primary election is a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape. As the country prepares for general elections, political parties are under pressure to conduct successful primaries. The PDP’s ability to navigate its internal challenges and conduct a successful primary will be closely watched by political observers. The party’s next steps will be crucial in determining its chances in the upcoming elections.
