China Reiterates Support for Nigeria’s Anti-Terrorism Efforts
The Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in its fight against terrorism. This assurance was made public in a statement released on Thursday, following a meeting with National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. According to Ambassador Dunhai, China “firmly supports” the Nigerian government’s development plans that align with the country’s unique national circumstances.
China has also expressed its opposition to any form of external interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs, particularly when such interference is justified under the guise of religion or human rights. Ambassador Dunhai emphasized that China, as a strategic partner of Nigeria, is committed to backing the Nigerian government’s efforts to chart a development path that suits the country’s specific needs.
The Chinese government had previously cautioned against external interference in Nigerian affairs. During a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday, Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, rejected the US government’s plan to launch military action in Nigeria. This stance underscores China’s position on non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations.
Ambassador Dunhai’s statement further highlighted China’s willingness to continue providing support to Nigeria in its efforts to combat terrorism and maintain domestic stability. This commitment is in line with China’s broader policy of supporting its partners in their development and security endeavors.
The assurance of support from China comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with various security challenges, including terrorism. The Nigerian government has been working to address these challenges, and the support from international partners like China is seen as crucial in these efforts. As Nigeria continues to navigate its security landscape, the commitment from China is likely to play a significant role in shaping the country’s approach to combating terrorism and ensuring stability.
