2027 election will be Tinubu vs Tinubu - Orji Kalu claims

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, told journalists at the National Assembly Complex on Tuesday that the 2027 presidential election will be a one‑sided contest, with President Bola Tinubu facing no significant opposition. He likened the upcoming vote to the recent Anambra State governorship election, where incumbent Charles Soludo was re‑elected with little competition, and said, “The election is Tinubu vs Tinubu, just like Soludo vs Soludo.”

Kalu attributed the lack of opposition to the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) strong nationwide presence and to the positive impact of President Tinubu’s policies on the economy and security. He claimed the party enjoys widespread support and that the president’s initiatives are gradually transforming the country’s economic and security landscape.

His comments come as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 presidential election, with political parties and candidates expected to begin gearing up for the campaign season. Although it is still early in the electoral process, Kalu’s assertion that President Tinubu faces no significant opposition has sparked interest and speculation about potential contenders and the election’s outcome.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen whether other candidates will emerge to challenge Tinubu’s re‑election bid. For now, the APC appears confident in its position, and Kalu’s remarks reflect the party’s optimism about its prospects in the upcoming vote, which will be closely watched by domestic and international observers.
