The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna has established a transition committee to strengthen its structures across the state’s 23 local government areas and 255 wards. The committee’s primary objective is to fill vacant executive positions and ensure the party’s presence is felt in all regions.
Chaired by Philimon Kure from Zone 3, the committee comprises members from various zones and political backgrounds, including Muktar Isa Hazo, Muhammed Dauda Haskiya, and Kabiru Ajuji. Zulaihat Abdul Kareem will serve as Deputy Chairman, while Ibrahim Musa has been appointed as the committee’s secretary. Other members include Ibrahim Adamu Sarki, Nazifi Jibrin Muhammad, and Haruna Dogo Mabo, among others.
The committee has been given 14 days to submit its report to the state secretariat and will be held accountable for its actions. According to the state chairman of the party, Elder Patrick Ambut, the committee’s mandates include conducting leadership audits in all local government areas and wards, as well as aligning with the 2022 INEC-supervised Congress of the party.
Ambut emphasized the importance of dedication, justice, and fairness in the exercise, citing Article 3.4 of the ADC Transitional Operation Guidelines. The article empowers the committee to foster a sense of belonging among party members and ensure that the party is open to all. The committee is also expected to maintain a 40:60 ratio between ADC and coalition partners in appointments to vacant positions.
In his acceptance speech, committee chairman Philimon Kure acknowledged the explicit mandates and emphasized the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to build a stronger party that reflects the interests of all. The committee’s establishment is a significant step towards strengthening the ADC’s presence in Kaduna state, and its success will be crucial in determining the party’s future prospects.
The ADC’s efforts to revamp its structures come as the party seeks to increase its influence in the state’s political landscape. With the committee’s inauguration, the party is poised to make significant strides in the coming weeks. As the committee begins its work, it is expected to prioritize fairness, transparency, and inclusivity in its decision-making processes. The outcome of the committee’s efforts will be closely watched by party members and observers alike, as the ADC seeks to consolidate its position in Kaduna state.
