The African Action Congress (AAC) has expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the Anambra State governorship election, citing alleged irregularities and electoral breaches. The party is calling for a thorough and transparent investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address concerns over the conduct of the poll.
According to the AAC’s Campaign Publicity Secretary, Chimezie Nwokeanochie, party agents and independent monitors reported widespread irregularities, including vote buying and violations of established electoral procedures. These breaches allegedly compromised the secrecy of the ballot and undermined the integrity of the vote.
The election, held on November 8, 2025, saw Professor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) declared the winner with 422,664 votes. The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, came second with 99,445 votes, while Sir Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) secured 37,753 votes.
The AAC has emphasized the importance of transparency, credibility, and reflection of the genuine will of the people in the electoral process. The party maintains that the anomalies observed during the election fell short of these democratic standards, eroding public confidence in the process.
The AAC’s governorship candidate, Chioma Ifemeludike, also criticized the conduct of the poll, alleging widespread vote buying. The party has urged INEC and relevant authorities to investigate these concerns and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
As the situation unfolds, the AAC’s call for an investigation highlights the need for electoral transparency and accountability. The outcome of the investigation will be crucial in determining the next steps and reinforcing the significance of democratic standards in the electoral process.
