NNPP lawmakers deny plans to dump party, pledge loyalty to Kwankwasiya movement

Lawmakers from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the House of Representatives have dismissed rumors that they plan to defect to other parties. The 13 legislators, who belong to the Kwankwasiya Movement in Kano State, reaffirmed their loyalty to the NNPP and its leadership during a press conference in Abuja. Led by Hon. Garba Diso, they described reports of a possible defection as “false and malicious.”

Their statement follows the recent defection of two NNPP lawmakers from Kano—Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin and Hon. Sagir Koki—who formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a House plenary session. Diso emphasized that interactions with members of other parties should not be mistaken for disloyalty; rather, they reflect a commitment to bipartisan cooperation aimed at promoting good governance, national unity, and progress for all Nigerians.

Diso attributed the rumors to political detractors threatened by the growing influence and unity of the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya family, especially in Kano State and across Nigeria. The lawmakers reiterated their dedication to the party’s ideals—justice, equity, inclusiveness, and people‑centered governance—and pledged continued allegiance to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya Movement. They asserted that no amount of misinformation or propaganda would shake their faith in the party’s leadership.

This reaffirmation of loyalty comes at a time when political alliances and defections are increasingly common in Nigeria’s political landscape. As the country approaches future elections, the unity and stability of parties will be closely watched. The NNPP lawmakers’ reassurance reinforces the party’s strength, underscoring their commitment to bipartisan cooperation, people‑centered governance, and the advancement of their constituents’ interests.
