Lamido Denies Withdrawing PDP Court Case

PDP crisis deepens as Sule Lamido asks court to stop convention

Former Jigawa State Governor and prominent People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dr. Sule Lamido, has denied reports that he has withdrawn his court case against the party. The allegations, which claimed he had dropped the case after a meeting with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, were described by Lamido as “false and misleading.”

In a statement on his official Facebook page, Lamido addressed the reports, stating that he had received numerous calls from PDP members regarding the story. He clarified that the statement attributed to him, indicating that he had instructed his lawyers to withdraw the case, was entirely fabricated.

A Federal High Court had earlier passed a judgment affirming Lamido’s right to contest the PDP chairmanship, a right that had previously been denied to him. Furthermore, an order stopping the PDP Convention scheduled for November 15th and 16th, 2025, in Ibadan remains in force until the party complies with the court ruling. This order also prevents the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from supervising or observing the Convention.

Lamido emphasized that a certified order stopping the Ibadan Convention had already been delivered to both INEC and the PDP. He urged party members to disregard the false reports entirely. The denial comes as the PDP prepares for its national convention, an event crucial for the party’s future direction and leadership.

The developments highlight the ongoing internal dynamics within the PDP, particularly concerning its leadership and the approach to upcoming conventions. The party has been navigating several challenges, including legal battles and internal disputes, which could impact its cohesion and electoral prospects.

As the situation unfolds, the PDP and its stakeholders are closely watching the legal proceedings and their implications for the party’s future. The denial by Lamido of withdrawing his court case suggests that the legal battle is far from over, and its outcome could significantly influence the party’s trajectory. With the convention approaching, the resolution of these issues will be critical for the party’s ability to move forward united and focused on its political objectives.
