Mwanza Court has adjourned the trial of eleven suspects accused of criminal acts during the October 29, 2025 general election to November 26, 2025. All of the accused are residents of Nyamagana District in Mwanza City and face charges of destroying public property, armed robbery and holding unauthorized demonstrations. The case was mentioned on November 17, 2025 before Principal Resident Magistrate Ramla Shihagilo. State Prosecutor Mahembega Elias told the court that investigations were still ongoing and requested an adjournment, which Magistrate Shihagilo granted. The suspects will remain in custody, as the charges are non‑bailable.

The defendants are represented by a team of five lawyers from the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) Mwanza Chapter, led by Advocate Erick Mutta. According to the charge sheet, they face two counts of property destruction by setting various items on fire, contrary to Sections 319(a) and (b) of the Penal Code, Chapter 16, Revised Edition 2023, and one count of armed robbery under Section 287A of the same law. The alleged incidents occurred between October 29 and 31, 2025 in Nyamagana District.

The prosecution’s request for an adjournment indicates that investigations remain incomplete. The additional time will allow investigators to finalize their work and gather further evidence before the trial proceeds. This case is one of several linked to the October 29, 2025 general election, which was marked by reports of violence and unrest in parts of the country. The outcome will be closely watched for its implications on the rule of law and the administration of justice in Tanzania.
