Nasiru El-Rufa’i, the former governor of Kaduna State, has stated that Nigerians are ready to unite and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in upcoming elections. He made this statement during the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Contact and Mobilisation Office in Plateau State.
According to El-Rufa’i, many Nigerians have become disillusioned with the current state of governance and are seeking alternative options. He claimed that the ADC is gaining popularity as a credible alternative to the APC and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The former governor also expressed his confidence that the ADC will emerge victorious, stating that “230 million Nigerians will defeat 25 governors” who have defected to the APC.
El-Rufa’i attributed the growth of the ADC to the party’s commitment to restoring integrity and ethical leadership in Nigeria. He criticized the APC, saying it has become a party of “tyranny, theft, and divisiveness.” The ADC, on the other hand, aims to field credible candidates with sound policies that can restore confidence in governance and reposition the country.
The Plateau State Coordinator of the ADC Contact and Mobilisation Office, Jamilu Lawandi-Datti, emphasized the need for unity and shared responsibility in addressing the challenges facing young Nigerians, including unemployment, insecurity, and poor education. He described the official opening of the office as a significant step towards bridging the disconnect between governance and the people.
During the event, over 800 defectors from the APC and PDP were formally received into the ADC by the State Chairman, Hannatu Gagara. She assured the new members of equal rights and privileges within the party. The large turnout of supporters has raised optimism among party members that the ADC could emerge as a strong political force in future elections.
The growth of the ADC is seen as a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly in the run-up to future elections. As the party continues to gain momentum, it remains to be seen how it will impact the country’s governance and political dynamics. With its focus on restoring integrity and promoting ethical leadership, the ADC is positioning itself as a viable alternative to the dominant parties in Nigeria.
