Kogi ADC Disowns Senator Dino Melaye

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kogi State has issued a warning to Senator Dino Melaye, advising him to cease presenting himself as a member of the party. According to Tayo John, the state ADC Public Relations Officer, Melaye is not recognized as a member of the party in Kogi State.

Speaking in Lokoja on Friday, John cited Melaye’s repeated interference in the party’s activities and his ongoing criticisms of the party as reasons for the warning. The state ADC executives, John emphasized, remain a separate entity and have not merged with individuals like Melaye, who claim to be members of the party.

John stated unequivocally that Melaye is not a known member of the ADC in his ward and therefore lacks the identity and authority to speak on behalf of the party in Kogi State. The spokesman characterized Melaye as someone who creates content for social media, aiming to attract attention and generate noise through the media rather than engaging in meaningful political activity.

As an individual who is not recognized as a member of the ADC, Melaye’s actions and statements do not align with those of the party, and he has no role in determining the party’s leadership composition. The warning from the Kogi State ADC serves as a clarification of Melaye’s status within the party and an assertion of the party’s autonomy and decision-making authority.

The development highlights the internal dynamics and conflicts within political parties in Nigeria, where issues of membership, leadership, and representation can be complex and contentious. The ADC’s statement may have implications for Melaye’s political activities and reputation in Kogi State, and it remains to be seen how he will respond to the warning. For now, the Kogi State ADC has made it clear that Melaye does not represent the party’s interests or values.
