Nigeria Insecurity Remains Top Challenge Says President Tinubu

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the need to address the insecurity challenge facing the country, particularly in the Northern region. Speaking at the 25th Anniversary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in Kaduna, Tinubu stressed that urgent efforts are required to rebuild trust, strengthen unity, and restore safety across communities.

The president, represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, noted that insecurity must be tackled decisively to prevent further economic decline and educational setbacks. He expressed concern over the security crisis, stating that it troubles him gravely, especially in Northern Nigeria. Tinubu added that the country cannot prosper when one region is paralyzed due to insecurity.

The Nigerian government has inherited complex security challenges, but Tinubu assured that his administration is addressing them with urgency and determination. He committed to eliminating terrorist and bandit groups operating in the North and reversing the region’s economic decline. The president also expressed optimism about Northern Nigeria’s economic prospects, citing the potential of crude oil production in the region.

To achieve this, the government is fast-tracking key infrastructure projects, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Superhighway. Tinubu emphasized the need for leaders in the North to speak with honest and courageous voices to address the region’s challenges. He warned that the region cannot progress if leaders fail to protect vulnerable communities.

The ACF has served as the conscience of Northern Nigeria for 25 years, consistently defending dignity, fairness, and equality for millions. The president praised the forum’s efforts, describing its Silver Jubilee as a celebration of courage, advocacy, and principled service. He urged leaders across all sectors to recommit to the values that guided the founding of the ACF, stressing that the unity and stability of the North are vital to Nigeria’s overall peace and development.

The ACF’s anniversary and the launch of its Endowment Fund demonstrate a collective resolve to resist division and restore solidarity in the region. As the Nigerian government continues to address the security challenges, the international community will be watching the developments closely, given the country’s significance in the West African region. The success of these efforts will be crucial in determining the future of Nigeria and its people.
