Ogun APC Ward Reaffirms Ex-Gov Gbenga Daniel's Suspension From Party • Channels Television

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 4 in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State has reaffirmed the suspension of Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, who represents Ogun East in the National Assembly. The ward’s executive committee says the suspension, imposed for alleged anti‑party activities, remains in effect despite a recent directive from the party’s national secretariat.

In a statement issued by the ward’s chairman, Adebayo Ismail, and secretary, Durojaiye Oluwole, it was clarified that the National Working Committee (NWC) lacks the authority to review, nullify, or reverse the suspension. The committee maintains that the action was taken in accordance with the party’s constitution, which empowers executive committees at each level to initiate disciplinary proceedings against members.

The decision to suspend Senator Daniel followed his failure to respond to invitations to defend himself against accusations of anti‑party conduct. The allegations relate to his actions during the last general elections, where he is said to have worked against the party’s interests and candidates in Ogun State, and to have attempted to obstruct justice during the Election Petitions Tribunal sittings—behaviours the ward’s executive committee deems serious breaches of party discipline.

The committee emphasizes that the suspension is a temporary measure that halts Senator Daniel’s rights, privileges, and obligations within the party. He has not been expelled, and the suspension will remain in effect until further notice. The ward’s executive committee stresses its commitment to discipline, fairness, and due process, and asserts that it will not be swayed by external directives that contradict the party’s constitution.

The APC’s national secretariat issued a press release on 17 November 2025, which the ward’s executive committee dismissed as misplaced and lacking constitutional basis. The committee’s stance is that the NWC cannot override decisions of lower‑level executive councils, and that the suspension of Senator Daniel is a valid exercise of the ward’s disciplinary powers.

This development highlights ongoing internal conflicts within the APC and the challenges of maintaining party discipline. As the party navigates these issues, the resolution of Senator Daniel’s suspension and its implications for the party’s cohesion and effectiveness remain uncertain.
