Nigerian Army arrests kidnapper in Taraba operation

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have apprehended another suspected kidnapper in Taraba, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat crime in the region. The suspect, identified as Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, was arrested on November 23, 2025, through a coordinated operation.

According to a statement issued by Lt. Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the brigade, preliminary investigations have established strong links between Bawa and a notorious kidnapping mastermind, Umar Musa, who was arrested by 6 Brigade troops on November 22, 2025, in Wukari. The two suspects are believed to be part of a wider criminal syndicate responsible for multiple kidnappings, violent attacks, and coordinated criminal activities across the Southern Taraba region.

The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brig. Gen. Kingsley Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and operational precision, stating that the arrest of Bawa is a clear indication that Operation Zafin Wuta is achieving its intended objective of dismantling criminal syndicates and restoring security to affected communities. The success of the operation reinforces the resolve of the Nigerian Army to rid Southern Taraba of all criminal threats and restore lasting peace to the area.

The arrest of Bawa and Musa is a significant development in the fight against kidnapping and violent crime in Taraba. The Nigerian Army has been conducting operations in the region to combat criminal activities and restore security. The success of these operations is attributed to the collaboration between security agencies and the provision of credible information by residents.

The Nigerian Army has urged residents to remain alert and provide information that will assist security agencies in their ongoing efforts to combat crime. The army’s efforts to restore security in the region are ongoing, and the arrest of Bawa and Musa is a testament to the commitment of the Nigerian Army to ensuring the safety and security of citizens. As the operation continues, residents are advised to cooperate with security agencies to achieve lasting peace in the region.
