Juventus have reportedly joined the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in January. Mainoo, 20, has struggled to secure regular playing time under manager Ruben Amorim this season, making just nine appearances across competitions. Napoli, who have previously signed Scott McTominay from United in 2024, are also said to be interested in the young midfielder.

Mainoo came through Manchester United’s youth ranks and initially impressed in his senior career. However, he has found it challenging to break into the first team, starting only once in the EFL Cup this season. With Napoli having already established a relationship with Manchester United through the signing of McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund on loan, they are reportedly looking to strengthen their squad further with the addition of Mainoo.

Juventus, meanwhile, believe Mainoo has the potential to be a key player for the club, drawing comparisons with former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. Pogba joined Juventus from Manchester United in 2012, returned to Old Trafford in 2016, and left in 2022 before re-joining Juventus. Mainoo has made 81 senior appearances for Manchester United, scoring seven goals and providing three assists.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has advised Mainoo to learn from his veteran teammate Casemiro, who has turned his career around at the club. Casemiro faced criticism last season but has become a key player under Amorim, starting in 10 of his 11 appearances across competitions. Ferdinand believes Mainoo can benefit from observing Casemiro’s work ethic and personality, which have contributed to his success.

As Mainoo seeks regular playing time to potentially secure a place in England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, a move to either Juventus or Napoli could provide him with the opportunity to gain more experience and develop his skills. With both clubs reportedly interested in signing him, Mainoo’s future is likely to be decided in the January transfer window.
