Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, has shared her alternative career path if she hadn’t pursued music. In a recent interactive session on X, a fan inquired about her potential profession if music hadn’t worked out. Tems revealed that she would have likely become an accountant or a mathematics teacher.

This disclosure provides insight into the Grammy-winning singer’s interests and skills beyond her music career. Prior to focusing on music, Tems worked as a digital marketer, a job she quit in January 2018 to concentrate on her artistic endeavors. Her debut single, ‘Mr Rabel’, was released in July 2018 and gained some traction in Nigeria.

However, it was her feature on Wizkid’s 2020 single ‘Essence’ that catapulted her to prominence. The song, which peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart after a remix with Justin Bieber was released, marked a significant milestone in Tems’ career. Her success has been notable, with multiple Grammy wins and collaborations with international artists.

Tems’ background in digital marketing and her aptitude for mathematics, as indicated by her consideration of a career in accounting or teaching, highlight her versatility and range of skills. Her decision to pursue music has led to significant achievements in the entertainment industry, both locally and internationally.

The Nigerian music scene has experienced substantial growth in recent years, with artists like Tems and Wizkid contributing to its increasing global recognition. As Tems continues to produce and release music, her fan base and influence are likely to expand, further solidifying her position as a prominent figure in the music industry. With her unique sound and talent, Tems is expected to remain a key player in the entertainment sector, inspiring fans and emerging artists alike.
