YEDC announces week-long power outage across Adamawa, Taraba

A planned power outage will affect several communities in Adamawa and Taraba states, Nigeria, as the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) undertakes major maintenance work. The week‑long outage is scheduled to begin on 1 December 2025 and end on 8 December 2025, with the aim of improving power infrastructure and strengthening electricity supply in the region.

According to a statement released by YEDC, the maintenance will be carried out by MBH Power Contractor at the 330/132 kV and 132/33 kV transmission stations in Mayo‑Belwa, Adamawa State. The project includes connecting a turn‑in‑turn‑out 330 kV line, which is expected to enhance the stability and reliability of the regional power network. The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has confirmed these details.

During the maintenance period, electricity supply from both the Mayo‑Belwa and Jalingo transmission stations will be unavailable, resulting in a total blackout in several areas. Communities expected to be affected include Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, as well as Zing, Lau, Mutum‑Biyu, Mayo‑Belwa, Jeda, Ganye, and Toungo.

YEDC has advised affected customers to make necessary arrangements ahead of the outage and expressed appreciation for their patience and cooperation. The company also urged residents to stay vigilant around power installations and report any suspicious activities to ensure a smooth restoration process once the work is completed.

The planned outage represents a significant step in the region’s efforts to improve its electricity infrastructure. While the maintenance work is expected to enhance the stability and reliability of the power network, residents and businesses will need to make alternative arrangements for their power needs during the outage period.
