Bandits kill two in Katsina community attack

A recent abduction in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) saw a 16‑year‑old boy and six girls taken from Gidan‑Bijimi in Kawu ward, Bwari Area Council. The community borders Marke village near the Kaduna State line. Eyewitnesses reported that armed bandits armed with AK‑47 rifles stormed two houses at about 9:47 p.m., firing sporadically before abducting the victims.

The attack threw the area into chaos. Some local vigilantes tried to confront the gunmen but were quickly overwhelmed by their superior firepower. The girls taken are said to be between 17 and 23 years old.

Kawu resident Suleiman Shuaibu confirmed the incident, noting that he received a call at 9:53 p.m. informing him of the invasion and abduction. Tragically, his cousin sister was among those seized.

The raid has forced many residents to flee their homes, and no contact has yet been made with the abductors. The community remains shaken, with people seeking safety while awaiting news about the missing individuals.

This abduction is the latest in a series of security incidents in the region, underscoring concerns about safety and the need for stronger security measures. The FCT and surrounding areas have previously experienced similar attacks, where armed groups target communities and abduct people for ransom or other motives.

Authorities have not commented on the incident, but efforts are presumably underway to locate the abducted victims and apprehend those responsible. The event highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the importance of continued vigilance and cooperation between communities and law‑enforcement agencies. As the situation develops, further information is expected regarding the rescue efforts and the fate of the abducted individuals.
