Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has presented a proposed 2026 budget of over 878 billion, with a focus on completing ongoing projects and introducing new ones. The budget allocates 65% to capital expenditure and 35% to recurrent expenditure.

The governor presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, outlining the new fiscal year’s priorities. The Economic Sector received the largest allocation of over 400 billion, representing more than 49% of the entire budget. The Social Sector followed with over 300 billion, while the Administration Sector and Law and Justice Sector received over 120 billion and 12 billion, respectively.

The proposed budget, tagged “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability,” represents a 40% increase compared to the 2025 budget, which had a performance rate of 79.1%. Governor Mohammed reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to settling all outstanding gratuities owed to retirees in full. He emphasized the importance of this budget, stating it is a statement of the administration’s values and a testament to the state’s progress.

The governor outlined plans to consolidate and deepen reforms in key sectors, including agriculture, education, health, and the public service. He also highlighted the need to complete strategic infrastructure projects, such as roads, schools, hospitals, and water schemes, across all local governments. The budget’s focus on capital expenditure is expected to drive economic growth and development in the state.

With the 2026 budget, the Bauchi State government aims to build on the progress made in previous years and ensure a sustainable future for its citizens. The proposed budget will undergo review and approval by the State House of Assembly before its implementation. As the administration enters its final year, the successful execution of this budget will be crucial in determining the state’s trajectory beyond 2027.
