Anambra Budget: Soludo Prioritizes Fiscal Management

Anambra Gov, Soludo re-affirms commitment to responsible fiscal management in 2026 budget

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to responsible fiscal management, prioritizing prudent use of the state’s resources. While presenting the 2026 budget, titled “Changing Gears 3.0 Solution Continues,” to the Anambra State House of Assembly, the governor emphasized the importance of accelerating development and transforming the state through a new developmental drive.

The proposed budget amounts to 757,884,487,705, representing an increase from the 2025 budget of 606,991,849,118. Governor Soludo highlighted that his administration has not borrowed funds to execute projects in the state, instead focusing on financing initiatives that generate revenue and strengthen the state’s economy. He noted that funding the budget remains a significant challenge, but his administration is committed to its mantra of “doing more with less.”

The governor pointed out that Anambra State has been ranked first in fiscal transparency and recently recognized as the leading state in fiscal sustainability. He attributed this achievement to the administration’s efforts to cut the cost of governance, prioritizing value over volume, and investing in projects that yield long-term benefits. The state’s budget allocation reflects this approach, with a ratio of 21 percent recurrent to 79 percent capital expenditure.

To address funding challenges, the state plans to launch a technology-driven initiative to enhance its internally generated revenue system, reducing leakages and widening the tax net. The governor also emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships with the federal government, international community, private sector, and local governments to drive development.

The 2026 budget focuses on deepening and consolidating the foundations laid during the governor’s first tenure, while introducing new legacy projects that will shape the state’s future. These initiatives will be implemented across five key pillars: security, law, and order; infrastructure and economic transformation; and human capital development. With a commitment to responsible fiscal management and strategic partnerships, Anambra State aims to continue its development trajectory and improve the lives of its citizens.
