Vice President Kashim Shettima called on emerging Islamic scholars in Nigeria and Africa to preserve and promote the values of tolerance, dialogue, and inclusivity exemplified by the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman‑Bauchi. Speaking after attending the cleric’s burial ceremony in Bauchi, Shettima described the loss as significant not only for Nigeria but for the global Muslim community. He noted that Sheikh Dahiru Usman‑Bauchi, a prominent Tijjaniyya leader, was renowned for his commitment to dialogue and inclusivity, which he said represents the true heritage of Islam. The Vice President urged young scholars to follow a path of moderation, accommodation, and inclusivity rather than fanaticism or extremism, and prayed that Allah grant the late cleric eternal rest and reward him with paradise.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State also paid tribute, calling the cleric a towering figure who transformed Islamic education and uplifted countless families. He highlighted Sheikh Usman‑Bauchi’s contributions to development and his establishment of a strong tradition of Qur’anic research and scholarship. Similarly, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State described the passing as a deeply sorrowful event for the entire Muslim community worldwide. Sheikh Dahiru Usman‑Bauchi was widely respected for his exceptional knowledge of the Qur’an and Hadith, and his teachings profoundly impacted millions, especially members of the Tijjaniyya order. The outpouring of tributes from Nigerian leaders reflects his significant influence and lasting legacy. His commitment to dialogue, inclusivity, and moderation serves as a model for future generations of Islamic scholars. As the nation mourns his passing, it is clear that his impact will be felt for years to come, and the Vice President’s call for emerging scholars to uphold his values underscores the importance of his legacy and the need for continued dialogue and understanding within the Muslim community.
