Nnamdi Kanu visited by Abia Governor Alex Otti in prison

Abia State Governor Alex Otti visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre on Sunday. The visit was confirmed by Kanu’s special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, who posted about the development on their Facebook pages.

According to Ejimakor, Governor Otti had previously promised to visit Kanu, and he thanked the governor for fulfilling that promise. Ejimakor described Otti as “a man of your words” and expressed hope that the visit would be the first step towards ending Kanu’s “undeserved ordeal.” Prince Emmanuel Kanu also commented on the visit, stating that Governor Otti and the people of Sokoto had made a unified statement by visiting his brother.

The visit comes after Kanu’s sentencing to life imprisonment. Following the sentencing, Governor Otti had announced that plans were underway to secure Kanu’s release from prison. Otti claimed that he had already initiated a strategy to secure Kanu’s freedom during his trial and had activated it after the sentencing.

Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, has been a prominent figure in the region’s separatist movement. His imprisonment has sparked controversy and debate, with some calling for his release. Governor Otti’s visit to Kanu is seen as a significant development in the case, and it remains to be seen what impact it will have on efforts to secure Kanu’s release.

The visit highlights the ongoing efforts by Governor Otti to address the situation surrounding Kanu’s imprisonment. As the case continues to unfold, it is likely that there will be further developments and reactions from various stakeholders. The situation remains a sensitive and complex issue, with significant implications for the region and its people.
