PDP Reboots Enugu State Leadership Ahead 2027 Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a new caretaker committee for Enugu State, marking a significant step towards reclaiming political control ahead of the 2027 elections. The ceremony, held on Sunday in Enugu, was attended by party faithful from all 17 local government areas, reigniting enthusiasm after months of internal stagnation.

The factional National Working Committee, led by Acting National Chairman Abdulraham Mohameed and National Secretary Sam Anyanwu, oversaw the inauguration. Vitus Okechi, former Chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area, was sworn in as Chairman of the caretaker committee, while Chukwunonye Okereke was inaugurated as State Secretary.

In his remarks, Okechi emphasized the importance of unity, loyalty, and reviving the PDP’s longstanding political dominance in the state. He appreciated those who remained loyal to the party despite challenges, assuring them that their loyalty would be rewarded. Okechi also outlined the party’s mobilization strategy, which would be “efficient, smart, and relentless” in rebuilding grassroots structures.

State Secretary Okereke highlighted the need for integrity and inclusive leadership as the party works towards rejuvenation. He emphasized the commitment to a recalibrated PDP driven by honesty, appreciation of members, and proper administrative competence.

The inauguration was attended by several dignitaries, including Prof. (Mrs.) Iloh, Barr. Celine Ugwu, and Chief Ken Obiora, who expressed confidence in the new leadership and encouraged the party to remain focused on rebuilding. The event also featured goodwill messages, which emphasized the immediate reactivation of structures across all 260 wards ahead of future electoral contests.

The move is seen as a significant step for the PDP, which has faced internal challenges in recent months. The party’s ability to reclaim control in Enugu State will be crucial in the lead-up to the 2027 elections. With the new caretaker committee in place, the PDP is poised to reposition itself for a strong comeback. The successful inauguration has renewed optimism within the party, with many expressing confidence that the caretaker committee will drive the PDP’s resurgence in the state.
