Kano Government Addresses Achaba Motorcycle Menace

The Kano State Government has acknowledged public concerns over the resurgence of commercial motorcycle activities, known as Achaba, in various parts of the state. In a statement, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Ibrahim Waiya said verified reports indicate that Achaba operations have re‑emerged in several areas within Kano city, as well as in nearby and border communities, despite the ban on such activities.

Intelligence has revealed that unknown individuals are using motorcycles to operate as commercial riders in some parts of the metropolis. In response, the government is reviewing public suggestions, including enhanced monitoring and surveillance at all entry and exit points, as part of a broader security assessment and response strategy. New measures are being taken to protect lives and property across all 44 local government areas, and security agencies have been given the necessary support to monitor the situation effectively. The government also stands ready to provide additional assistance to security agencies as needed.

Residents have been assured that security agencies are on top of the situation and are working to restore peace and stability in the state. The government thanked the people of Kano for their vigilance and cooperation, urging them to remain alert, report suspicious activities, and continue supporting the agencies. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to addressing security‑related challenges and pledged to work closely with local government leadership, traditional institutions, community leaders, security agencies, and citizens’ groups to ensure full‑scale security, stability, and peace are restored in Kano State.
