Over 10,000 members of various political parties in Benue State’s Ogbadibo Local Government Area have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The defectors, from the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Labour Party (LP), were received by Senate Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro and Benue State PDP Chairman Ezekiel Adaji during a rally on Saturday.
The rally, held across three districts in Ogbadibo, saw notable defectors including Labour Party Women Leader Mrs. Agnes Apeh, retired police officer CSP Onah Amedu, and Abel Akoh of AA Dominion. They cited Senator Moro’s people-oriented leadership and quality representation as the reason for their defection. The defectors praised his legislative contributions and legacy projects, pledging their support for his re-election bid in 2027.
CSP Onah Amedu, speaking on behalf of the defectors, highlighted Senator Moro’s credible and people-centered representation as the driving force behind their decision. “We have seen what Senator Abba Moro has done and what he continues to do for our people,” Amedu said. “His projects and legislative contributions are visible to all, and we have decided to join hands with him in the PDP to move Ogbadibo forward.”
The people of Ogbadibo unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Senator Moro, endorsing him as their unopposed candidate for the 2027 Benue South Senatorial election. Senator Moro expressed gratitude for the defectors’ decision, assuring them of equal rights and fair treatment in the PDP. He also dismissed rumors of his planned defection to the APC or any other party, reaffirming his commitment to the PDP.
The event was attended by several party leaders, including State PDP Chairman Adaji Ezekiel, North Central Women Leader Hon. Mrs. Owakoyi Igharuwa, and PDP State Women Leader Hon. Mrs. Alice Albert. The mass defection is seen as a significant boost to Senator Moro’s re-election bid and the PDP’s presence in Benue State. With the 2027 elections approaching, the PDP is poised to capitalize on the momentum generated by this large-scale defection.
