Tinubu appoints Gen Musa Defence Minister

The Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing General Christopher Musa as Minister of Defence. In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, MOSIEND’s president, Dr Kennedy West, described the appointment as a responsive move to the aspirations of Nigerians. The group expressed hope that General Musa’s leadership will bring a more cohesive and professional approach to addressing the nation’s security challenges.

General Musa, the immediate-past Chief of Defence Staff, has been praised for his competence, discipline, and field experience. His nomination has been seen as a demonstration of President Tinubu’s commitment to restoring peace and unity in the country. MOSIEND, which has been observing and engaging with the nation’s security evolution for over 33 years, believes that General Musa’s return to defence leadership will inject renewed strength and strategic precision into Nigeria’s security architecture.

The group noted that General Musa’s deep operational understanding, ranging from the North-East theatre to Lake Chad operations, positions him as a stabilising force capable of shaping coordinated strategies to be executed by the Chief of Defence Staff and the Service Chiefs. With General Musa at the helm, MOSIEND forecasts a more disciplined and professional approach to confronting the enemies of the nation, including bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements.

MOSIEND has also urged President Tinubu to complement General Musa’s appointment with expanded empowerment of the military, including modern equipment, improved intelligence capacity, and strengthened policy frameworks. This, the group believes, is particularly important in light of the declared state of emergency on national security. The Niger Delta community has expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s bold and decisive moves, and MOSIEND has called on all Nigerians to rally behind the Armed Forces and support the security agencies in safeguarding the nation.

The appointment of General Musa as Minister of Defence is seen as a significant development in Nigeria’s efforts to address its security challenges. As the country continues to grapple with issues of banditry, terrorism, and other criminalities, the leadership of General Musa is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s security strategy. With his experience and expertise, General Musa is well-positioned to make a positive impact in his new role, and his appointment has been widely welcomed as a step in the right direction.
