APC Chairman Impeached in Cross River State

Joke taken too far- Impeached APC chairman in Cross River

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has impeached its chairman, Alphonsus Eba, in a move that has sparked reaction from the affected party leader. Eba’s impeachment was carried out by 30 out of 32 members of the State Executive Committee (SEC) on Thursday, citing allegations of misappropriation of funds, high-handedness, and non-payment of stipends to party officials.

The decision to impeach Eba, who is also known as the “Political Evangelist,” was preceded by a vote of no confidence passed by chapter chairmen, secretaries, and vice chairmen of the party. The state working committee, which has control of the state party secretariat, has since appointed Ntufam Ekum Ojogu as the acting chairman.

Eba has dismissed his impeachment as “a joke taken too far,” stating that the action is “illegal” and that God will speak on his behalf at the appropriate time. However, the state working committee has maintained that the impeachment is “done and dusted” and has begun the process of stabilizing the party under new leadership.

Ojogu, the new acting chairman, has pledged to work with stakeholders to strengthen grassroots structures and deliver dividends of democracy to the people of Cross River State. He commended party leaders for their dedication to due process and party stability, adding that the decision to remove Eba was aimed at restoring order and accountability.

The development is significant for the APC in Cross River State, as it comes at a time when the party is preparing for upcoming elections. The impeachment of Eba and the appointment of Ojogu as acting chairman are expected to have implications for the party’s structure and operations in the state. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the party will navigate this transition and move forward under new leadership.
