The National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party, Dan Nwanyanwu, has voiced confidence in the Nigerian military’s ability to address the country’s insecurity challenges. In a recent interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” programme, he described the fight against terrorism and banditry as a relatively simple task for the armed forces.
Nwanyanwu pointed to the military’s successful participation in peacekeeping missions across Africa as proof of its capacity to handle Nigeria’s security problems. He noted that the Nigerian Army has been involved in more complex conflicts abroad, suggesting that it possesses the experience and expertise needed to confront current domestic threats. To illustrate his point, the Zenith Labour Party chairman likened the effort to eradicate terrorism to a simple breakfast meal—“akamu” or pap—implying that it is a manageable undertaking for the military.
His comments come at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with insecurity, including terrorism, banditry and kidnapping. While the armed forces have been actively combating these threats with varying degrees of success, the government is also exploring other approaches, such as economic development and social programs, to address the root causes of instability. Nwanyanwu’s remarks underscore the importance of confidence in the military’s role and suggest that, with adequate support, it can make a significant impact in ensuring the country’s security and stability.
