Hernia surgeries sponsored for vulnerable patients

A philanthropic effort in Katsina State, Nigeria, has committed over N87.5 million to provide free surgical interventions for patients suffering from hernia and hydrocele. According to Hussaini Kabir, a member of the Mangal Foundation’s Board of Trustees, the initiative has been ongoing since 2013, with quarterly interventions aimed at alleviating the financial burden of healthcare for vulnerable individuals.

During a recent screening exercise at the Katsina General Hospital, Kabir revealed that the foundation has supported a significant number of patients, with approximately 400 patients receiving treatment in the first quarter at a cost of N28 million. In the second quarter, 500 patients were treated at a cost of N29.5 million. For the current quarter, over 900 patients have registered, with an expected expenditure of at least N30 million.

The Mangal Foundation’s efforts have not only benefited residents of Katsina metropolis but have also extended to rural communities and neighboring states. Kabir emphasized that the initiative is part of the foundation’s commitment to addressing healthcare challenges in underserved communities. He called on other organizations and philanthropists to support similar humanitarian efforts, highlighting the need for collective action to improve healthcare outcomes.

The beneficiaries of the program have expressed gratitude for the initiative, with some calling on the government, private organizations, and wealthy individuals to emulate such gestures. One beneficiary, Malam Adamu Abubakar, shared his experience of living with a hernia condition for an extended period, unable to afford surgery due to economic hardship. The free surgical intervention has brought relief to many, and the foundation’s efforts are expected to continue making a significant impact in the region.

The Mangal Foundation’s commitment to providing free surgeries and medical treatment is a significant step towards addressing the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations. As the foundation continues its quarterly interventions, it is essential for other stakeholders to support similar initiatives, ensuring that collective efforts are made to improve healthcare outcomes in underserved communities. With the foundation’s efforts, many individuals will receive the medical attention they need, and the community will benefit from the positive impact of such philanthropic endeavors.
