The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has launched Ojaja University’s Ile-Ife Campus, a non-profit institution aimed at reforming education in Nigeria. The launch, which took place on Saturday, is part of the activities marking the 10th coronation anniversary of Oba Ogunwusi.
The university, described as a legacy project, is designed to provide quality education and serve as a model for educational reform in the country. Oba Ogunwusi expressed his gratitude to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, for his positive contributions to his life and the development of the institution.
The Sultan of Sokoto, who was in attendance, commended Oba Ogunwusi for his investments in education, health, and other sectors. He praised the Ooni for his commitment to enhancing the lives of the people, saying, “I thank Almighty Allah that we have people like you who are really committed to enhancing the life of our people.”
According to Prof. Lere Baale, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Ojaja University is not just an educational institution but a cultural embassy and a center for African leadership renewal. The university aims to provide a platform for entrepreneurs, scientists, agriculturalists, and cultural scholars to thrive.
The Vice-Chancellor of Ojaja University, Prof. Jeleel Ojuade, described the institution as a tool for generational empowerment. The launch was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, and the Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin.
