Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited has launched its Southern Swamp Associated Gas Solutions (SSAGS) Project in Delta State, Nigeria, marking a significant step toward ending routine flaring at its Tunu Node operations and promoting industrialization. The project is expected to inject approximately 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMScf/d) into the domestic market, equivalent to about 820 million barrels of oil, and could power roughly 6,700 households for a year.
The SSAGS initiative will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs across various phases of the gas supply chain, contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Tony Attah described the inauguration as a milestone in the company’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and the utilization of associated gas. Located in oil‑mining leases 35 and 46, the project will establish essential infrastructure for future development of both discovered and undiscovered potential within the node.
Over 90 % of the work was completed in‑country, upskilling Nigerian expertise and fostering community content development. The project will route all production to four flow stations—Tunu, Ogbotobo, Benisede, and Opukushi—and evacuate oil via the Trans Ramos Pipeline to the Forcados Export Terminal. This configuration is expected to sustain the domestic gas network with a contribution of more than 30 %, delivering substantial value to Nigeria and supporting Renaissance’s domestic gas aspirations.
Since its inception, the SSAGS project has exported a cumulative volume of approximately 158 billion standard cubic feet of gas, with about 98 billion scf supplied to the domestic gas network and 60.1 billion scf to Nigeria LNG at Bonny. Host communities have praised the project’s success, noting the employment opportunities it provides. King Jacob Israel Monday Ogbolo of the Amanana‑Owei of Egbemo‑Anagalabiri domain highlighted the project’s positive impact, stating that it has created a peaceful working environment for both indigenes and non‑indigenes.
The SSAGS project reinforces Renaissance’s commitment to its Nigeria content development goal and demonstrates the company’s dedication to delivering sustainable energy solutions. As it continues to contribute to the nation’s energy sector, the project is poised to play a significant role in promoting Nigeria’s industrialization and economic growth.
